Meet Shaleen Malova
Originally from Kenya, Shaleen relocated to Australia in 2020 as an international student before beginning her lash journey in 2022.
After recognising a lack of representation for Black-owned lash artists within Sydney's beauty industry, she felt inspired to create a space where women — particularly those within the African community — could feel understood, comfortable and genuinely cared for.
Through conversations with clients and women in her community, Shaleen realised that many had struggled to find lash artists who understood their natural lashes, individual features and beauty needs. Hearing experiences of damaged natural lashes and disappointing services strengthened her desire to create a more inclusive, personalised and supportive lash experience.
A Studio Built On Care
Since launching Modest Beauty, Shaleen has continued to grow through genuine client relationships, honest feedback and an ongoing commitment to developing both her technical skills and client experience.
Today, her approach is centred around quality, healthy lash practices and personalised styling. Every client is encouraged to communicate what they love, what they don't, and how they want to feel when they leave the studio.
For Shaleen, Modest Beauty is about more than creating beautiful lashes. It's about creating a space where every woman who sits in her chair feels seen, understood and confident.
